Average battery capacity converging in top EV markets

German packs take a leap

In Q3 2023, the sales-weighted average EV sold in Germany, including PHEVs and HEVs, had a battery capacity of 42.3 kWh, the highest among the top three EV markets globally.

In second spot, the sales-weighted average EV sold in China during the same period had a battery capacity of 41.7 kWh while that of the US clocked in at 39.0 kWh, the lowest among the top three.

Adamas take:

Germany’s move to the front of the pack is even more remarkable when considering that just over a year ago the sales weighted average pack capacity there was nearly 25% lower than that of China.

With Tesla deliveries in the US expected to rebound in Q4, and Rivian R1T and Ford F-150 Lightning sales poised for a strong year end, the US is positioning to pull ahead in Q4.
