Top 5 Automakers by Battery Nickel Deployed in 2018

Feb. 4, 2019

Tesla and Toyota fuel for more than half of battery nickel consumption

In 2018, the top five automakers by battery nickel deployed were (in descending order) Tesla, Toyota, Nissan, BAIC/BJEV and Renault, according to data from Adamas Intelligence’s “EV Battery Capacity and Battery Metals Tracker”.

Collectively, Tesla and Toyota were responsible for 56% of all passenger vehicle battery nickel deployed in 2018, with Tesla driving demand via the nickel-rich Li-ion batteries it employs in its BEVs, and Toyota via the nickel-rich NiMH batteries it uses in its HEVs.
