Top 5 EV Models by Battery Cobalt Deployed in 2018
Nissan Leaf is number one but Tesla has three models among top five
In 2018, the top five passenger EV models by battery cobalt deployed were (in descending order) the Nissan Leaf, Tesla Model 3, Tesla Model X, BMW i3 and Tesla Model S, according to data from Adamas Intelligence’s “EV Battery Capacity and Battery Metals Tracker”.
Although the Nissan Leaf crossed the line in first place for cobalt deployed in 2018, it’s interesting to note that Tesla has three models among the top five, despite its use of higher-nickel (and lower-cobalt) cathodes in its most recent models (i.e. Model 3) and model-versions (i.e. Model S 100D AWD).
