The Ups and Downs of Global EV Battery Capacity Deployment

Apr. 18, 2019

February a mixed bag for the global EV market

After a seasonably-slow January for the global EV market, February saw the slowdown in EV sales expand in some key EV markets and sharply rebound in some others.

In China, total battery capacity deployed (in MWh) in newly-sold passenger EVs dropped 49% in February versus the month prior, according to Adamas Intelligence’s “EV Battery Capacity and Battery Metals Tracker”.

Similarly, in the U.K., total battery capacity deployed in newly-sold passenger EVs was 46% lower in February compared with the month prior, and in Japan and the Netherlands, total capacity deployed fell by 10% and 8%, respectively.

At the other end of the spectrum, total battery capacity deployed in newly-sold passenger EVs in Norway jumped 58% in February 2019 versus the previous month, while capacity deployed in Canada and France increased 16% and 10%, respectively.
