China’s Rare Earth Exports Up 92% in Five Years

Export volume up 92% since 2014

From 2014 through 2018 China’s exports of rare earth oxides (and oxide equivalents) increased by 91.7%, from 27,769 tonnes to 53,224 tonnes, according to statistics from China Customs.

Production quota increased just 14% over the same period

Over the same period, the total rare earth mining quota issued to China’s rare earth producers each year by the nation’s Ministry of Land and Resources increased by just 14.3%, from 105,000 tonnes of rare earth oxides (or oxide equivalents) in 2014 to 120,000 tonnes in 2018.
